  1. I was hoping that you had more information on Hannah (Eskridge) Lewis..
Do you know who her parents are? You show her spouse as John Lewis, but then under John Lewis, you show his spouse as Elizabeth.. are these 2 different John Lewis’s.. My family line is Eskridge, and I really would like more details if you have any concerning her.. Thank you so much.

    • Hannah Lewis was the daughter of William Joseph Lewis and Catherine Jennings Linton. Catherine Linton is the sister of my Captain John Linton, daughter of Moses Linton and Susanna Hancock. William Joseph Lewis was the son of Vincent Lewis and Ann Longworth. John Lewis, the husband of Hannah Lewis, is also her first cousin. John’s parents were John Lewis and Elizabeth Brown. John, Sr.’s, parents were Vincent Lewis and Ann Longworth. Elizabeth Brown’s parents were Thomas Brown and Elizabeth Reed. The John Lewis you talk about is Hannah’s brother, John Lewis, who married Elizabeth Edwards. Too many John Lewis’ who married Elizabeth’s!

  2. Okay,, thank you .. so Hannah Eskridge Lewis was “Eskridge” the middle name of Hannah.. Why is Eskridge there? I thought that was her maiden name, so now I am corrected thank you.

    • Her first name is also written as Honnaka – perhaps Hannah was taken from that as her nickname? I cannot find Eskridge in the family – even several generations back. I do know that sometimes children were given middle names for very good friends – even girls!

  3. Eskridge: In previous research I spent an amount of time looking for that connection to the Lewis family. I think you’re right. From what I found in Loudoun Co. they were neighbors, obviously close friends.

Question: In all my many references encountered re. Hannah, I’ve never seen the name Honnaka, not that it’s not possible. Where was that found? Doesn’t it seem strange that her sisters, my Mary Linton Lewis (Davis) & Susan Lewis (Lewis), and every other member of the family were all named traditional or family names? But “Honnaka Eskridge”? That’s really a departure from their norm.

BTW – Seventeen yrs ago I read/borrowed a book about the John and Hannah Lewis family published by Hancock Co. Looked on the internet for it. Can’t find and don’t remember the name. Can anyone help?
