I have a great photo to share with you today – probably late 1860’s. The bishop sleeves – although decorative at the upper arms – is definitely an 1860’s feature. The material of the dress is a glorious satin, in a checked pattern, rather than the usual solid color. The hairstyle is very plain, drawn back from the face. Notice this woman wears what looks like a wedding band on her right hand. Was she a widow of the Civil War? All in all a very interesting photo.
It was taken by R. S. DeLamater in Hartford, Connecticut, three doors above the post office!
