Late 1860’s Photo

Scan069 1I have a great photo to share with you today – probably late 1860’s.  The bishop sleeves – although decorative at the upper arms – is definitely an 1860’s feature.  The material of the dress is a glorious satin, in a checked pattern, rather than the usual solid color.  The hairstyle is very plain, drawn back from the face.  Notice this woman wears what looks like a wedding band on her right hand.  Was she a widow of the Civil War?  All in all a very interesting photo.

It was taken by R. S. DeLamater in Hartford, Connecticut, three doors above the post office!

  1. I could not see a ring on her left ring finger, but did see on on her right ring finger.
