Gravestones in Crescent Hill Cemetery, or Old Company Cemetery – Muhlenberg County

In the fall of 2017 Ritchey and I toured eighteen counties in Kentucky, along the southern border with Tennessee, and in western part of the state.  While in Muhlenberg County we stopped by Crescent Hill Cemetery, also known as Old Company Cemetery.  As from this first photo you can see how overgrown it was, the grass tall enough to hide the stones.  But any cemetery, hidden or not, has its jewels.  I could find no obituaries for those listed on these stones.

Palestene Rowe, January 11, 1865 – March 3, 1952.  Crescent Hill/Old Company Cemetery, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.

‘Lina’ Fronnie Carolina Willoughby Cook, May 17, 1867 – February 23, 1937, married Willis B. Willoughby in 1883, married James Cook in 1912.

Mary Jane Willoughby, September 15, 1866 – April 25, 1946, married Grafton Willoughby in 1887.  Brother, James H. Bracken died on the Titanic 1912.

Corporal Joseph M. Roark, Co. M, 17 Kentucky Cavalry.

Otis Lewis, born October 5, 1880, died February 1, 1909.

Earl Hicks, February 6, 1888 – November 15, 1918.

Alice Shemwell, December 8, 1863 – December 6, 1900.  John L. Shemwell, September 9, 1854 – December 8, 1917.

John Edwards, January 13, 1850 – January 24, 1908.  Margaret, his wife, December 25, 1955 – October 17, 1919.

Bell, wife of Pete Myers, November 21, 1843 – January 24, 1913.

What a beautiful place to be buried!
