Sacred to the memory of Jonathan Taylor, born in Orange County, Virginia, January 17, 1774, died in Oldham County, Kentucky, Mary 30, 1831. And his wife, Mary Ashby, born in Fayette County, Kentucky, October 30, 1781, died in Oldham County, Kentucky, March 25, 1833.

Jonathan Taylor was commissioned Ensign in the American Army by Gen. George Washington in 1792 and was at St. Clair’s defeat November 4, 1793. He was commissioned Lieutenant by General Washington in 1795 in the 4th Sub-Legion. He rendered distinguished service as aide-de-camp to Gen. Anthony Wayne, with the brevet rank of Major and was an efficient officer in the last Indian wars, which resulted in a treaty at Greenville, Ohio, August 3, 1798. He resigned from the army in 1800.
