Gravestones In Fernwood Cemetery – Henderson County

While in Kentucky last year we visited Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson County, across the Ohio River from Evansville, Indiana.  Fernwood Cemetery was established in 1849 and is located at 840 Madison St. in Henderson (city and county have same name). 

Sacred to the memory of James B. Pollitt, Esqr., a native of Maryland, born January 6th 1791, died October 28th 1832.  The integrity of his conduct and the amiability of his temper endeared him to a wide circle of friends.

John C. Breckinridge Burbank, born in Paris, France, died in Soekaboemi, Java, December 26, 1892.

Kate Courtney Burbank, born in St. Catherine, Canada, died in Boston, Massachusetts, December 30, 1868.

Hannah Eugenia Burbank, born in Henderson, Kentucky, died in Milan, Italy.  March 23, 1878.

Harriet A.  Norris, died July 25, 1860, aged 58 years, 2 months.

Hugh Roy McAhan, 1886-1901.  Milton M. McAhan, 1891-1901.  Chester G. McAhan, 1889-1901.

Nellie Barnard, fell asleep in Jesus February 3, 1899.  Blessed are the pure in heart.

Susan Dixon Brown, 1869 – October 20, 1894.

Mary, born August 27, 1854, died August 25, 1860.

David R. Burbank, born in Belgrade, Maine, March 4, 1806, died in Union County, Kentucky, October 31, 1872.

John Thomas Bunch, born in Virginia, November 27, 1819, entered into life May 14, 1892.

Martha Isabella Hopkins, wife of John Thomas Bunch, born February 6, 1824, entered into life January 12, 1888.

  1. The three McAhan brothers were “bathing” in a pond near their home on June 12, 1901, when one stepped into a deep area and called for help. The other two brothers attempted to aid him but all three drowned.
