Can I Check My Books For You?

15 Minutes of Research From My Library

My genealogy library consists of 399 volumes – most on Kentucky history and Kentucky counties, many on Virginia and Maryland (since I have ancestors who migrated from those two states to Kentucky) and others. I thought that perhaps I could check a particular book for you to see if your ancestors are listed. I would suggest doing this in increments of 15 minutes (since there may be nothing) at $5. If I find something I will scan those pages and send to you. I will not go past the 15 minutes unless you agree to more time – you can email me. If there is time left from the 15 minutes when I check a book, I will use it to check newspapers. You may purchase research time in increments of 15 minutes if you wish.

$5.00

Since Covid-19 has hit I know many genealogical and historical libraries are closed to the public. I’m not sure if they have reopened. I will not go past the 15 minutes unless you agree to more time – you can click on the Paypal button and email me for more research. If there is time left from the 15 minutes when I check a book, I will use it to check newspapers for anything on your ancestors. You may purchase more than one increment of 15 minutes if you wish.

When you click on the Paypal tab, send me the name of the book you want me to check. Please send as much information as you can on your ancestor(s) – name, birth date, death date, marriage date, spouse’s name, children’s names. The more information you send, the better I can hopefully find the person you are interested in. Of course, your ancestor may not be in that particular book. I know this is just a chance, but since libraries are closed (and some are uncomfortable getting out if they are) I thought this might be helpful. Please give me feedback on whether you think this is a good idea. I always like to hear your thoughts.

  1. Hi,

I have been trying to trace a family for several years and I have hit a brick wall. I am hoping you can help me. Carter Barnes Parrish and Permelia Parrish married in Virginia and moved to Kentucky. I cannot find proof of all their children. The one I am focused on was Andrew H Parrish,

Andrew Humphrey Parish 1813–1880 BIRTH 4 JUL 1813 • Mercer County, Kentucky, United States DEATH 16 FEB 1880 • Mercer County, Kentucky, United States 2nd great-grandfather  Add MyTreeTags™

He married Elizabeth Ransdell. I can prove the line from Humphrey Parrish to Carter. And I can prove the line from Andrew to my paternal grandmother but I cannot find proof that Carter and Permelia had a son Andrew. Thank you for any help you can give me.

    Can you help me?

    Karen Reynard Prather Krp8227@yahoo.com 919-782-2574 919-830-5329

  2. Phyliss, what a great thing you are doing! You have amassed a wonderful genealogical library. Thank you for sharing. Best wishes to you and family. Love, JB

    >

  3. I would like you to check your books for me. This email did not open up so I don’t know what you need to check. But I’m a genealogist so I can guess.

    Sent from my iPhone.

  4. Hi, Phyllis,

I love your website and blog! And thank you so much for offering the book lookups. These are books I’ll never have access to here in Pennsylvania.

Here’s the info for my Hendrickson family…

a.. Hendrickson, sometimes Hendrixson, Hendrix, Hendricks a.. But not the Hendricks family from Woodford County, they’re a different family. b.. There’s another Hendricks family in the area, so don’t worry too much about it. I can tease them apart once I see the scanned pages. b.. Primarily in Nelson, Washington, and Mercer counties c.. Married into other families and went to Adair, Anderson, Cumberland, Hardin KY, and Indiana and Illinois d.. John Hendrickson Sr was in Loudoun County, VA from about 1760-1770 e.. He was in Fayette, PA (and possible nearby Greene, PA) from 1770-1786 f.. Dies in Nelson County, KY in 1787, Separate Case (his son-in-law) is the administrator of his estate. g.. (I don’t know where John Hendrickson is before 1760, but he’s having kids as early as 1749. Possibly VA or MD.) h.. The family and all their records begin here: a.. https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/110854964/person/140180383464/facts b.. c.. There are links in his tree to all the research blog posts I’ve written about the family. i.. Basics of the family: a.. John and Eve Hendrickson – shows up first in KY in Nelson 1787 estate as “Hendrix”. His wife, Eve, dies sometime after 1797. Their children: a.. Isaac – first shows up in Mercer, KY in the 1787 tax lists as “removed” along with Jacob (his son) and John (his brother). Back in Washington, KY in 1789 then moves to Bourbon, KY around 1791. Dies in Adair, KY around 1820. b.. James – shows up in Loudoun, VA, tax list in 1765, married to a Margaret and they’re in a court case in Loudoun in 1769. I’m not sure he lives after that or goes to KY. He’s a mystery. c.. Mary – is part of a rape case in Loudoun, VA in 1770. Shows up in Mercer, KY around 1790-1794 when she gives consent for her daughter’s marriage. Marries Thomas Walker round 1794, and is dead by 1843. d.. Leonard – marries an unknown “Sally”. First shows up when the family is living in Fayette, PA in 1772 (his son is born 1771 Fayette, PA). Is in Washington, KY by 1792. On census and tax lists through about 1819-1820, always in Washington County. When we mapped it out, they’re all probably living close to each other on the border between these counties on/near the Chapin River. e.. Simeon – marries a “Fanny.” First show up in a Lease For Lives documents with John Tayloe as one of John Hendrickson’s sons (John Jr also on this deed). On tax lists in Loudoun, VA through 1773, then appears to be around Morgantown, WV in 1775. Stays in the Fayette, PA area, then moves to Ohio. Never in KY. f.. Lydia – marries Separate Case. People say she’s a Moore, but mtDNA shows her to be a Hendrickson. First shows up in Nelson when her husband is the administrator of her father’s estate in 1787. She’s on the Washington, KY tax list on her own in 1799. They seem to be in Bullitt, KY around 1805, and then she’s on the 1808 tax list in Washington, KY. She dies sometime after 1821 in Washington, KY. g.. William – marries Nancy Moore. First shows up in 1786 Fayette, PA. Buys property in 1797 in Mercer, KY, and his brother John is mentioned as having adjoining land when they sell in 1822. Stays in Mercer, KY until they go to Shelby, IN around 1840. Dies in Shelby, IN after 1840. h.. Elizabeth – She marries James Sample, and then she first shows up in 1793 when she marries John Galloway. She stays in Washington, KY until 1850 when she shows up in Anderson, KY. She dies 1851 Anderson, KY. i.. John, Jr – unknown who his wife is. He’s mentioned in the Lease For Lives in Loudoun, VA, so one of the two youngest sons of John in 1765. He’s on the 1787 Mercer, KY insolvent/removed tax list. He is a witness for an indenture in 1792 Mercer, KY, and buys land there the same year. He’s a witness for his brother, Samuel’s marriage, in 1796 Mercer, KY. He’s the witness for John Case’s (Lydia and Separate’s son), who married in Washington, KY 1798. By 1810 he’s in Burkesville, Cumberland, KY. j.. Samuel – he first shows up in Nelson, KY in 1791 tax list. He marries Elizabeth Hills 1795 Mercer, KY, and then Elizabeth Stilts in 1796 Mercer, KY. He’s on the 1800 Nelson, KY list, then gone/dead after that. k.. Barbara – first marries Elijah Queen 1792 Nelson, KY (bond is in VA, just before KY becomes a state). She marries again 1797 Mercer, KY, to Robert Casey, and her mother Eve Hendrixson (widow), gives consent. They are in Washington, KY through 1810, then move to Illinois. j.. Other helpful information a.. Many are married by Separate Baptist ministers and/or become Separate Baptist ministers. b.. Intermarry with the Case and Hardin families a.. the Moses Hardin family from Overwharton, Stafford, VA, not the Hardin family from NY who, coincidentally go through Fayette, PA to Washington, KY; two different DNA lines. b.. The Case family ends up in Anderson, KY c.. I think they’re fairly poor. There are several instances where the children are bound out. I believe only William and John, Jr owned land. d.. There’s a mention in the Lincoln family material about Leonard Hendricks being on a road order or petition, but I haven’t seen the original of this. k.. Books to check: a.. History of Anderson County, Kentucky b.. Any of the Mercer, Nelson or Washington KY books c.. History of Cumberland County Kentucky for John, Jr or any of his kids. d.. Any of the Kentucky State ones you feel might yield something during the 1780-1850 time period, except Kentucky Pioneer and Court Records, I can see that on Ancestry. e.. Any early KY newspapers, especially around 1785-1800. I haven’t seen any of these. f.. Anything in Loudoun, VA pre-1780 except tax lists, I have those through Ancestry and FamilySearch. I also have the Lease for Lives information.

    Thanks!

  5. Sorry, Phyllis, I thought this would come through as an email with bullet points. If you email me, I’ll re-send this list in a much better format! 🙂

  6. I’m looking for any information on the families of Richard Worth who married Mary Parker in Nelson Co, KY, 1791. According to the marriage bond (which I have a copy of) Mary’s brother James Parker signed. I find not even basic information on these two so anything is potentially helpful.

My interest is that our James Parker, Wikitree.com/wiki/Parker-1616, was reportedly in Nelson Co, KY around 1781 and there is much speculation that Mary could have been his sister. James Parker of this line signed for land in Crawford Co, IL many years later by making is mark so he likely wasn’t literate, yet Mary’s bond was signed for.

  7. Hello!
I am a great great granddaughter of Andrew Pinkerton. His wife was Laura Jane Green. All I have been able to find on Andrew is that he was born in KY, approximately 1851. Buried in Arkansas. I come from their son John Boyd Pinkerton (1907-1987) who married Helen Jo Davis (1915-2002). I am trying to find information on Andrew, this parents, anything.

  8. Hello,
I have been searching for the parents and siblings of James William Hicks for some time. He was born in Kentucky in 1825 and died during the Civil War. In 1853, he married Mariah Noland McDowell in Jackson County, Missouri. Her parents were also from Kentucky –Henry Trusty Noland and Elizabeth Pitcher. I am not sure if you can help me. I wasn’t sure how to purchase your time and provide information.

  9. Hello, I just submitted payment and received a confirmation email, but when I tried to email information to the email address in the confirmation it came back undeliverable. How can I submit the information for my request?

  10. I am trying to learn the name of my 4th great grandmother. She was the first wife of my 4th great grandfather, Henry McAtee (1764-1846). She had 6 children, the fifth being my 3rd great grandfather, Daniel McAtee (1794-1875). Her children were Monica (married Simpson), Therisa (married Brown, then Hill), George, Clotilda (maried Osbourn), Daniel, and Elizabeth (known as Sister Aloysia after joining the sisterhood). Henry McAtee moved from Kentucky to Missouri in 1823). I am hoping you may have information to learn the name of Henry McAtee’s first wife. It is not Elizabeth Luckett. I believe she may have married in Maryland (Charles or St. Mary’s County) between 1784 to 1788 or when Henry McAtee arrived in Kentucky. Henry McAtee and his first wife traveled with the historic migration of Catholics from Maryland to Kentucky. Daniel McAtee (my 3rd great grandfather) was born in what was then Washington County, Kentucky. However, the migration settled in Nelson County. So, it could be either. I believe Henry McAtee’s first wife died about 1799, as he married Mary Ann Monarch (2nd wife) on 22 October 1799. While Daniel was probably baptized at the Holy Cross Church, the Church tells me all their records burned years ago. Only records after 1842 are available. So, I am not able to get Henry’s first wife’s name from Daniel’s baptism. Can you help? I sent a payment through Paypal.

  11. I would like to find more information on my ancestor Elijah (sometimes James) Reeves who is mentioned in a 1799 will (of Thomas Mills, Sr.) in Fleming County (July Court 1799).
I have almost nothing on his wife, Nancy A. Goodwin.
According to later court records, Elijah Reeves was of Cherokee descent.

It looks as if you have a book that addresses Fleming County. He moved to Obion County Tennessee around 1816.

(Quick excerpt from entry on 2022/02/08 :
