Stoney Point Church

This church was organized in 1807 at the home of Alexander and Lydia Thurman Mayhew, immigrants from Virginia.  On June 15, 1849, they gave this property to the trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church South for the church and cemetery.  Erected by Mayhew descendants and the Patrick Gillmore Chapter NSDAR 1993.

Allen County is located on the Tennessee border, with the Kentucky counties of Barren, Warren, Monroe and Simpson surrounding it.

Miss Vina Loyd died October 10, 1906.

Mrs. Rachel Gaines, an old and esteemed woman of the Buck Creek neighborhood, in Allen County, died last Friday.  The deceased was eighty-seven years old.  The Franklin Favorite, August 2, 1906.

Harriet Walker, July 6, 1838 – January 3, 1908.  J. W. Walker, March 5, 1833 – March 16, 1906.  Stone reads 1808 and 1806 for death dates, but that is impossible.

Elizabeth E., wife of Samuel Ellis, born August 10, 1791, died July 22, 1862.

Virginia, wife of M. E. M. Ellis and daughter of John and Susan Clark, June 2, 1817 – May 15, 1866.

M. E. M. Ellis, December 27, 1819 – July 26, 1904.

In memory of Alexander Mayhew and his wife Lydia, reared in Virginia.  Immigrated with three other brothers and settled in Allen County, Kentucky.  Became owner of many acres of land, giving these grounds for church and cemetery purposes.  Also, the founder of this church.  They were born in Virginia about 1777 and died near here about 1855.  Erected by the 4th and 5th generations.
