Will of Major Silas Harlan – Killed at Battle of Blue Licks August 19, 1782

Silas Harlan was one of the brave men who fought the British and Indians during the Battle of Blue Licks on August 19, 1782.  Silas was one of the four majors in battle, along with Edward Bulger, Hugh McGary and Levi Todd.  Silas was one of the casualties of the battle  You can read more about this battle in a previous post from July 26, 2018 – https://kentuckykindredgenealogy.com/2018/07/26/slaughter-of-kentuckians-at-the-battle-of-blue-licks/

Silas was born March 17, 1753, in Berkeley County, Virginia, the son of George Harlan and Ann Hunt.  He left his estate to his three brothers – Jehu, Elijah and James.

Of the three witnesses to the will only Jeremiah Briscoe was living when the will was produced in court. Charles Ferguson also died during the battle. I am not sure when Jacob Harlan died.
