This is most likely the neatest and most elegant handwriting I’ve seen. The words are carefully spaced and some letters are very decorative.
Know all men by these presents that we, Michael Sparks and William Perrin, are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency, the Governor of Kentucky and his Successors, in the full sum of fifty pounds to the payment of which we bind ourselves and each of our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly an severally, firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals and dated the 15th day of August 1794.
The Condition of the above obligation is such that whereas Thomas Reedes, Clerk of Bourbon County, hath this day issued license for the marriage of Michael Sparks and Elizabeth Wells. Now, if there is no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage and no damage accrues by means of the said license being issued, then the above obligation shall be void, else to remain in full force and virtue.
