Gravestone Photographs From the New Section of Holy Name of Mary Cemetery – Marion County

I’m sharing a few gravestones from the new part of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Cemetery located in Calvary, Marion County, Kentucky.  1788 is given as the settlement date on the Rolling Fork River, but a few years earlier, those first few settlers could be found there.  John Barton Abell, Henry Hudson Wathen, Benedict Spalding and Samuel Abell were Revolutionary War veterans who came to this land and are buried in this cemetery – in the older portion.  There are several posts on this older portion of the cemetery.

These photographs were taken ten years ago – amazing how the time flies.  Even more amazing – I found my second great-grandfather, Pius Carrico, buried here, as well as his second wife, Mary Ann Boarman.

Charles Luckett, born September 12, 1842, died September 10, 1899.

George W. Spalding, July 5, 1845 – August 17, 1914.  Etta Spalding, December 11, 1853 – November 13, 1925.

Louisa Spalding, born April 30, 1832, died December 27, 1900.

Wm. T. Spalding, born October 18, 1818, died March 6, 1881.

Amanda, wife of Wm. T. Spalding, born October 1, 1822, died May 9, 1849.

Ben A. Abell, 1860-1918.  Alice Luckett, his wife, 1862-1915.

Mary A. Carrico, died March 8, 1895, aged 72 years.

Pius Carrico, died July 11, 1894, aged 48 years – incorrect, it should be 84 years!

Susan Ann, wife of John B. Spalding, February 29, 1823 – July 7, 1899.

John B. Spalding, October 28, 1820 – July 28, 1901.

Ignatius Abell, October 9, 1822 – October 17, 1907.

Wm. Hayden and wife.

William Hayden, born January 4, 1842, died February 27, 1931.  Mary C. Hayden, born May 28, 1840, died January 20, 1907.

F. M. Bickett, February 23, 1836 – September 15, 1916.  Susan V., his wife, December 18, 1842 – September 24, 1911.

  1. Thank you for sharing! I’m a descendent of the Hayden & Carrico families that came from there to Fancy Farm KY.

  2. Your followers are always grateful for your research. In this post, I find the Spaldings, Abells, and Carricos, all of whom I am related. My fifth great grandfather, Leonard Hamilton settled with his family at Rolling Fork in 1790. Thank you so much.

  3. I am also related to the Lucketts, Spaldings. I believe my GGG Grandfather Hezekiah Luckett is buried there but I think the grave stone is not actually standing on the grave.

  4. Looking forward to some point you’ll come across a grave stone of Sarah ( Wickliffe ) Ewing. Daughter of Lydia and Charles Wickliffe. Had married Charles Ewing in 1786
Sarah died somewhere in Kentucky in 1804
