Cemeteries

Gravestone Photos from Hazel Green Cemetery – Wolfe County

Ritchey and I visited Hazel Green Cemetery, in the small town of the same name, March 21, 2023. Excessive storms and winds the week or so before had left trees, branches and debris in the cemetery, most of which was piled away from the gravestones. Fortunately the majority of stones were still intact. Until finding a newspaper article from The Hazel Green Herald in May, 2018, while researching for a post, I had never heard of this small town. Then someone sent a message saying they grew up in Hazel Green and never expected to see anything about their home town on the blog. I was enchanted by their excitement and decided there and then that when Ritchey and I visited Wolfe County, Hazel Green Cemetery would definitely be on the agenda!

From Lexington, Kentucky, take I64 to Winchester, then the Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway to Hwy 191. Take a left onto Hwy 191 and continue to Hazel Green until Hwy 191 makes a right turn. The cemetery is a short distance away on the left – still within the city limits – and just past the Masonic Lodge. Takes about an hour and a half, which of course depends on traffic.
