Note by Phyllis Brown: William Peter Montgomery II and Mary ‘Polly’ Yates are my gr-gr-gr-grandparents. They were married for only eleven years before the cholera epidemic of 1833 took William at the age of 35, on 19 Jun 1833. Mary was pregnant with my gr-gr-grandfather, William Peter Montgomery III, when her husband died – he was born two months later 07 Aug 1833 and never knew his father. Mary lived another 31 years, raising her family by herself. She died in 1874. Their children were Charles W. Montgomery who married Helen Hagan; Martha E. Montgomery who married Thomas Hagan; Henry L. Montgomery who married Elnora Montgomery; Mary Rebecca Montgomery who married James A. Hagan; Frances Edwina Montgomery; and William Peter Montgomery III who married Martha Ann Carrico.
The 106 unmarked graves mentioned is in the Springfield City Cemetery, which does not include the many who died and were buried in other cemeteries in the county.

Know all men by these presents that we, William Montgomery and Raphael Cambron, are held and firmly bound unto the commonwealth 0f Kentucky in the just and full sum of fifty pounds current money to the payment of which well and truly to be paid to the said commonwealth we bind ourselves, our heirs, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this 21st day of January 1822. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended between the above bound William Montgomery and Miss Mary Yates, daughter of Henrietta Yates, for which a license has been issued . Now if there be no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage then the above obligation to be void, else to remain in full force and virtue in law.
