New Kindle Book – Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Cemetery List – Washington County, Kentucky

This has been a five year project, taking photos beginning in the fall of 2008 and through 2012, although I’ve just recently put the list together. This project is dear to me because my fifth great-grandfather, Captain John Linton, helped build this church. Many of my Linton, Moran and Edwards family members are buried here. Also, many of the early settlers of Washington County were laid to rest here. In a more modern happenstance, my husband’s father was minister of this church in the early 1960’s. Who knew we would share this common piece of history?

Included is an alphabetical listing of those buried at Pleasant Grove, including birth and death dates, and sometimes additional information. There are 856 names on the list. Within a few weeks I will make this into a CD that includes photos of most of the gravestones and can be purchased on my website through Paypal.

Could you tell me how you are related to the Moran’s and Edward’s. As they are on my mother’s side of the family. Her maiden name is Moran. Her mother’s maiden name is Edwards.

  How interesting that your name is Susan – there are many Susan Moran’s in my line! William Linton, son of Captain John Linton and Ann Mason, married Elizabeth Lyon Moran, April 5, 1817, in Washington County, Kentucky. Elizabeth was the daughter of William Moran, Jr., and Mary Barber. William Moran, married as his second wife, Susan Linton, daughter of the captain. William Moran is buried in the Linton cemetery and after his death Susan Linton Moran moved to Missouri with her children, lived with son Young William Moran until her death.
  
  William Moran had a brother, John Myvert Moran, who married Mary Edwards, a sister of my Edward Barber Edwards, who married Nancy Linton. Edward Barber Edwards’ parents were Jonathan Edwards and Sarah Barber. The above Mary Barber who married William Moran, and Sarah Barber who married Jonathan Edwards were sisters, children of Edward Barber and Sarah Myvert.

I’m so happy you have published this list! My parents are buried in the cemetery as are my grandparents and several great- greats! And I will be buried there, too. My tombstone is already there right next to my parents. It was the last lot and I’m the last of the Hopper line.

Hi Cousin Phyllis, Thanks for posting the information on Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church. I didn’t know that Captain John Linton (my 4th grandfather) had helped build it. Very interesting!!

Do you have any information on Captain John Linton’s grandson, Benjamin Clark Linton (son of Moses Linton and Ann Nancy Pead)? Specifically, I am looking for his death date and where he is buried. Possibly he is buried at St Rose Catholic Church, but I haven’t found a record to show that. He first married a Hayes. His 2nd wife was Ann Caroline Newton. I descend from Benjamin and Ann Caroline.

Also, have you ever seen a photo of Benjamin Clark Linton?

Kindle Book – Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church Cemetery Photos – Old Cemetery – $8.29

Thank you for purchasing this book. There are two parts to the cemetery of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church – the old part is where the original settlers, the older people, were buried. This part is rather small. The newer part is much larger. Only the older cemetery is included in this book. There is a path up the hill from the new cemetery to the old cemetery, at the top of which is a monument in concrete which includes pieces of broken stones. What a wonderful way to display them – and so much better than throwing them away! This book includes photos of all the stones in the older part of the cemetery, and some from the new, a total of 70 names. Included are photos of the pathway, monument stones, church and historical marker.
