Ulysses Grant Scott was born 142 years ago – July 31, 1869. He married Miranda Tatum October 19, 1890, in Washington County, Kentucky. Ulysses and Miranda had two children, Myrtie and Birtice. Ulysses died July 28, 1931.

May be related-my great-grandmother was Susan Belle Scott and Ulysses Grant Scott would be her father’s brother. Do you have any other information?

  Cathy, I have checked and the only information I have is on Ulysses Grant Scott, his marriage to Miranda Tatum and his two children, Myrtle and Birtice. I do know Ulysses was buried in Everygreen Cemetery in Washington County, Kentucky. Just checked the 1870 census for WC, James Scott, 30, is listed with wife Hester, 22, and children – Charles, 5, James, 4, and Ulysses, 2/12. In the WC marriages is James H. Scott married Hester A. Hungate February 6, 1862. In the 1860 WC census is Charles Hungate, 51, with wife Sarah, 40, James, 19, Joh, 16, Hester A., 15, Nancy C., 13, Mark, 10, Sterline, 8, meritt, 6, Ruth E., 4 and Sarah, 1. Also in the 1860 WC census is Eliza Scott, 45, with sons James, 22, Henry, 18, Asher, 16, and Henson, 12. In the 1850 WC census Elizabeth is a widow with the same four sons plus daughter Nancy R., 14. Sarah Carsey, aged 80, born in Delaware lives with them. I hope this helps!

This project is dear to me because my fifth great-grandfather, Captain John Linton, helped build this church. Many of my Linton, Moran and Edwards family members are buried here. Also, many of the early settlers of Washington County were laid to rest here. In a more modern happenstance, my husband’s father was minister of this church in the early 1960’s. Kindle Book – Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church Cemetery Photos – Old Cemetery – $8.29

Thank you for purchasing this book. There are two parts to the cemetery of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church – the old part is where the original settlers, the older people, were buried. This part is rather small. The newer part is much larger. Only the older cemetery is included in this book. There is a path up the hill from the new cemetery to the old cemetery, at the top of which is a monument in concrete which includes pieces of broken stones. What a wonderful way to display them – and so much better than throwing them away! This book includes photos of all the stones in the older part of the cemetery, and some from the new, a total of 70 names. Included are photos of the pathway, monument stones, church and historical marker.
