Years ago my sister and I visited St. Louis with the understanding that we would at least visit the National Genealogical Convention that was being held there – or at least the vendor area!  After an hour or so of walking around and being in awe of all the interesting things that were on display – genealogy books, computer programs, maps, charts – everything possible that would make a genealogist on cloud nine – my sister declared she had had enough!  The last table before the exit was filled with cemetery books from the St. Louis area.  I told her I had to look at just a few.  Can you believe that the very first book I picked up and randomly opened to a page had the burial information for Dr. Moses Lewis Linton, grandson of Captain John Hancock Linton!  That wouldn’t happen in a million years – but it did!  So now we were on a mission to find Calvary Cemetery!  The next stop on our agenda was the old cathedral – which I find even more beautiful that the new one!  In the gift shop we asked about the cemetery and were given directions.  After getting lost a time or two we did find it!  Such a huge, but extremely beautiful cemetery!  We stopped at the office just inside the gate and were given directions to the Linton plot.  Find it we did!  Never in my wildest dreams before going to St. Louis would I have imagined visiting a cemetery!  The plot was on a hill, with the interstate below.  It had been raining all morning, and the grass was rather slippery, so my sister stood behind me, propping me to take photos, and hoping we both wouldn’t plummet to the street below!  All in the name of genealogy!

Dr. M. L. Linton, April 8,1808 - June 1, 1872

Dr. Moses Lewis Linton was the son of Benjamin Franklin Linton and Lucy Crewdson.  He married Ann Rachel Booker in Washington County, Kentucky.  Moses and Ann moved to St. Louis  about 1845.  Their first three children died young while living in Washington County.  The remaining 8 children were:  John Hancock, Paul Booker, Ann Rachel, Benjamin, Frances Lewis, Mary Elizabeth, Amelia Matilda, Margaret Booker and Caroline Pope Linton.
