Carrico-Montgomery Wedding

My mother’s parents on their wedding day, November 24, 1920.  Mary Alice Montgomery became the bride of Joseph Rueben Carrico.  Following is the article from The Springfield Sun, the local newspaper (I can’t believe they married at 5:30 a.m.!  Perhaps the morning train was very early?) and the marriage bond and register information:

The Springfield Sun, Thursday, November 25, 1920

Montgomery-Carrico

The marriage of Miss Alice Montgomery and Mr. James [should be Joseph!] Ruben Carrico was solemnized at St. Dominic’s church at 5:30 o’clock Wednesday morning, Rev. Fr. Hennessey officiating.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Montgomery and is a pretty and accomplished young woman of many loveable traits of character.  The groom, who is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Carrico, is a prominent young farmer of the St. Rose section.

Only members of the immediate families and a few friends witnessed the ceremony.  Immediately after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Carrico left on the morning train for a short bridal trip after which they will make their home on the farm of the groom near St. Rose.

The many friends of the contracting parties extend hearty congratulations.

  1. I am very surprised the Newspaper had such a beautiful write up on the marriage of them. It is always a pleasure to locate such information when you have a large family as the Montgomery’s do. I could imagine they may have traveled up to Louisville for a lovely wedding dinner and evening. But I am a Romantic. Thank you for the additional information you provided concerning their marriage details. You are truly a romantic yourself and an excellent genealogist.

  2. I am related to the Carrico line though my report says I’m the second cousin twice removed of the wife. 8)
