Mrs. Rachel Askin, daughter of the late Joseph and Phoebe Helvey Jacobs, was born in Bracken County on September 13, 1864, and departed this life at the home of her son, Mr. Clay Askin, near Lenoxburg, on May 8, at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 17 days.

She was united in marriage to Mr. Joseph D. Askin, and to this union four children were born, two having passed on in infancy.  The surviving sons are Clay, with whom she lived, and Lawrence Askin.  Besides her devoted children she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Eliza Dennie, of near Falmouth, and three grandchildren, besides several distant relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. Askin was a devoted wife and mother, kind and loving neighbor, good christian lady, being a member of the Belmont Baptist Church since early life, always willing to help her neighbors in times of trouble or distress.  Mrs. Askin spent the majority of her life in the Milford and Santa Fe sections of Bracken County, having resided near Lenoxburg only for the past twelve years.

Funeral services were conducted from the Lenoxburg Baptist Church on Wednesday afternoon of May 10, by Rev. W. M. Lennox, with burial taking place in the Riverside Cemetery.

Pall bearers were Mr. William Dennie, Harley Biddle, Lawrence Pope, J. A. Taylor, Clyde Askin and Clayton Henderson.

The flower bearers were Miss Octa Puccini, Mrs. Pearl Stagg, Mrs. Ruby Fields and Miss Audra Henderson.

Woodhead Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
