I really enjoyed today’s post. I’m researching the house we bought in 2014 – it was built in 1871 and they would like it on the Historical Registry (Springfield, Washington, KY) – and from going back in Deeds it looks like it was owned by Robert Finley McElroy and his wife, Sarah Finley McElroy (they were cousins of some degree). They never had children so most information found relates to his brother, Rhodam Y. McElroy of Lebanon, Marion, KY – who ended up with the house in 1905, a year before he died. Robert and Finley both died in 1912. Looking at the picture the right two story wing was added ca 2001 or 2008.
Mrs. McMurtry, who bought it with her husband in 1937 and lived there until the late 1980s, is still doing well at 102. I hope to visit with her again sometime this week. Her daughter painted the house when they lived there and I hope to get a picture of the painting as well as some of her memories of when she lived there.
And find Rhodam (RY) McElroy’s will as well!
