Old Photos

1870’s Fashion

Scan074My children are home this weekend – we’re celebrating birthdays!  So I’ve taken the easy route of posting old photos!  They are so beautiful, what is not to like?

This young woman wears the bustle and smaller skirt of the 1870’s – quite a comparison to yesterday’s full, hooped skirts of the Civil War!  In addition to the skirt being smaller, so are the sleeves, much more form fitting!  This is a lovely example of the decade, the layers of ruffles, extra bits of decoration on every part of the dress!  The hat is quite attractive with it’s brim and feathers – and quite different from yesterday’s bonnet with long ties.
