Mr. James H. Lapsley died at his home near Providence Church Tuesday morning. Mr. Lapsley had been sick for several years with a complication of diseases, and while his death was no surprise to his friends, the announcement was received with great sorrow. He was 61 years of age, and was one of the leading men in his section. He was also well known throughout the county, having been a member of the General Assembly of 1893, which position he filled with great credit to himself and his constancy. Besides a large number of relatives, he leaves a wife, who was Miss Emma Ferguson, and two children, Dr. Frank Lapsley, of Paris, Ky., and Mrs. E. J. Patton, of Newport News, Va. The funeral services were held at Providence Church Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock, conducted by Dr. J. G. Hunter, assisted by Rev. F. B. Cleland, the pastor of the church. The interment took place in Providence Cemetery. The active pall-bearers were: Sam Forsythe, Ed Cleland, W. A. Sharp, B. F. Roach, T. H. Hardin, W. C. McAfee. The honorary pall-bearers were: I. C. Rider, Geo. Forsythe, Geo. A. Robinson, S. F. Overstreet, Dr. J. W. Powell, Henry Willis.

Mrs. Emma Lapsley who, after the recent death of her husband, Mr. James H. Lapsley, sold her farm near McAfee and went to Newport News, Va., to reside with her daughter, Mrs. Mattie Lapsley Patten, died Monday night last after a very brief illness. Her remains will arrive here today, and the funeral will take place at 3 at Providence Church tomorrow and burial in old Providence Cemetery. Deceased leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary E. Branham, who resides in Denver, Col., a brother Mr. Joe Ferguson, of Kansas City, and one other brother Mr. E. V. Ferguson, at Louisville, and two children, Mrs. Patten, of Newport News, and Dr. Frank P. Lapsley, of Paris, Ky.
