Today Kentucky Kindred is five years old. What began as a thought to write down some of my genealogy information has blossomed into the blog of today – cemetery photos, wills, biographies, obituaries, marriage records, newspaper articles, old photos and more!
My first post ‘A Book of Gravestone Photos – Or Two!’ – was in the age of printed photos. Times have changed. In the digital world we live in, my photos are not in albums any more, but in files by county, saved on my hard drive – and an external hard drive for safe keeping! Now instead of a photo or two in a cemetery, Ritchey and I take photos of many or all the stones! And then I share them on Kentucky Kindred with fellow genealogists like you! I honestly do not know how many cemetery photos I have, but it would be in the tens of thousands! Of the 120 Kentucky counties, we have photographed cemeteries in 48 – 72 left to go!
Think of how many descendants a person might have. You and I may have only one or two generations – possibly three – and a few descendants. But a 4th great-grandparent could have thousands of descendants through many generations! My grandmother is my grandson’s great-great-grandmother! How quickly those generations come about and how important it is to share information with all those thousands of descendants! You have become a big part of my life and make what I do so much more enjoyable with your comments and additional information!
I can’t say exactly what Kentucky Kindred will become in the future, but I will continue to share information from the Kentucky counties – along with bits from emigrant states such as Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania; and immigrant states such as Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Missouri, and beyond! Most of our ancestors didn’t set down roots forever in one place, but moved on for new lands and adventures!
Thank you for being loyal readers these five years! I’m amazed and humbled that 1,574 of you follow my blog! We will continue this genealogy adventure together!

Thank you!!!
Love it, keep hoping some of mine will show up as there were in the same places or close by at,the same times. Some of your names are around the edges.
Do you have any information about the Kentucky Cochran/Cockrum’s. Name had other spellings. I can send more info if it would be helpful! Thanks for any help. Enjoy your blog!

Thank you, Phyllis! I’m happy I discovered your blog while researching my family tree. I’ve made a few discoveries of my own from your posts and just enjoy how you tell the stories of those early pioners!
Dear Phyliss, I can attest to your inspiration of doing this. I think you started doing this about the time I was hoping to find someone that could go to Stewarts Creek Baptist Cemetery and take pictures of what ever was left at the cemetery. I don’t know if you have been back there since but what you were able to retrieve and record has been such a blessing. A daughter went to KY and to the church, took pictures and how the quality of the stones, the ones she could find were barely discernible. I ordered your CD way back then and I am so thankful to you and to God for His hand in all of this. SO very thankful. SO Happy Fifth Anniversary. I, for one, am more grateful than can be expressed. Because of you and your husband, we have the record of the burials of our Ray family and Amanda Ray Spencer. As well, verified proof that Roseanna C Foster Ray is buried there, wife of Francis Ray. Not in Indiana as so many profess. 😉 May His blessings be yours to carry on in this great work. I am only one that has a story like this, I imagine there are thousands. As ever, Patty Hocker RykerHamilton, MT
Happy Fifth Anniversary. I so much enjoy your posts.
Thank you so much for sharing the results of all of your hard work and expertise. Also thank Ritchey for us. I look forward to your site being with us for many more years. It is the first site I look at everyday. Marilyn
I am so thankful I happened upon your site a few months ago! I was born in Maysville, KY and have numerous ancestors from Mason and Lewis County. Many of my husband’s ancestors were from Christian and Warren Counties so one day you will no doubt encounter some of our ancestors. We live in AZ or I would be visiting cemeteries in those counties as often as I could. Thank you so much for what you both do! -Kathy
Congratulations on your 5th Anniversary. You do a remarkable job. I have learned so much new information about my ancestors, many of which are related closely to you. Thanks for all you do.
Sincerely Dottie Porter Himes
Thanks so much for all you do, I enjoy it all. The photos are my favorite!
Belated congrats on your blog’s 5th anniversary!
I haven’t been a member for long but have enjoyed the graveyard inscriptions and photos, letters, records and old portraits — together a great way to bring history for life.
I’m hopeful one day I might glean some info on my elusive McKibben ancestor but meantime will continue to look forward to your posts.
Thank you and keep up good work.
