This photograph is a gorgeous example of the late 1890’s leg ‘o mutton sleeves. What a large amount of material was used just for the two sleeves. This dress is an excellent example of the high necked, very elaborately decorated costume of that time period. The woman looks as if she may be ill – her hair is very thin and she appears quite pale. But she is still beautiful.
