Good morning! My newest project, the first wills of Nelson County, Kentucky, has been published and can be purchased on Amazon. I truly enjoy deciphering these old manuscripts! I’ve learned so much in the process and am truly amazed at these early pioneers and what they accomplished in such a short time and with the bare necessities!
Will Book 1 was huge – 1027 pages! I transcribed the wills only since it is so large. There are 101 wills included, a tenth of those written by women! I must say I love women’s wills – they are concerned about their silver spoons, dishes, clothing, spinning wheels, those items dear to their hearts! Not that men’s wills aren’t interesting, they just have a different feel – acreage, stock, tools, slaves.
This is my fifth will book typing the complete wills – Franklin, Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson and Nelson. I’ve already started on Bourbon County – taking the oldest counties in order. Mercer County will be next. Since Fayette County’s records were destroyed by fire January 31, 1803, that volume will come later – what a loss! I love a project that is so fascinating. We do intend to visit more cemeteries, but that will most likely be next year!
