Photographs From Old Onton Cemetery – Webster County

The following photographs were taken at Old Onton Cemetery, Webster County, Kentucky, in the town of Onton at the corner of Highways 147 and 370, in April of last year.  Onton is a small town, but full of history as all small towns are.  The older generation buried in the cemetery were the Asby’s and Timmons’. 

Virginia B. Hardin, March 23, 1859-October 7, 1923.  Virginia’s parents were Peter and Cynthia Hancock Ashby.  She was married twice, first to Atha David Nance, and second to Benjamin Hardin.

Lucy T., wife of Ira Bradford Carey, born May 7, 1828, died March 5, 1852, in the 24th year of her age.  Lucy and Ira were married March 19, 1851.  She died shortly after giving birth to their son, Francis Marion Carey.

C. C. Cobb, April 13, 1863 – August 5, 1912.  Nannie A., his wife, February 7, 1861 – September 6, 1936.  Christopher Columbus Cobb.

David W. Scott, born January 3, 1857, died July 22, 1905.

John William Morgan, CO B, 5 KY CAV, CSA, December 23, 1841 – December 16, 1912.

Jessie B. Cobb, CPL, TRP H, 5 REGT, IND CAV, SP AM WAR, Jun 9, 1883 – January 4, 1970.

Henry Ashby, born October 13, 1787, died February 27, 1848, aged 60 years, 5 months and 14 days.

Nancy, wife of Henry Ashby, born 1796, died 1873.  Nancy Crews before marriage.

Silas F. Lovan, CO A, 3 KY INF, SP AM WAR

Catherine Stephenson died February 13, 1901, aged 75 years, 11 months and 25 days.

John Timmons, born July 26, 1788, died January 23, 1864.

Susan Timmons, born May 11, 1796, died July 2, 1875.
