Gravestones in Ghent Cemetery – Carroll County

Photos of a few stones in the Ghent Cemetery, in the city by the same name.  The early settlers named it for Ghent in the Netherlands, now Belgium.  It is a beautiful small town located on the Ohio River in Carroll County.  Ritchey and I visited the area in October of 2015.

Nannie B. Satchwell, wife of J. Saalmiller, born September 4, 1864, died February 17, 1892.

Miriam B. Gex, wife of D. P. Craig, born March 29, 1854, died January 22, 1880, aged 25 years, 9 months, 23 days.

James B. Tandy, born April 10, 1812, died January 15, 1895.  Wife, Harriet Ann, daughter of U. P. and J. Schenck, born October 16, 1831, died August 4, 1864.  John J. Tandy, born June 13, 1858, died December 21, 1874.

Julius B., son of Edward D. and Emeline Bledsoe, died July 9, 1859, aged 16 years, 7 months, 19 days.  ‘Parents, sister, brothers, Weep not for me it’s all in vain, Weep for yourself from then refrain.  Life is . . .’

Virgil S., son of Edward D. and Emeline Bledsoe, died November 11, 1877, aged 37 years, 11 months and 2 days. 

Juliet, wife of J. H. Ellis, died August 13, 1876, aged 65 years, 5 months and 2 days.

Berryman, son of J. H. & Juliet Ellis, died February 3, 1878, aged 38 years, 2 months and 1 day.

Sallie, wife of George H. Montgomery, daughter of J. B. & A. W. Orr, born October 16, 1858, died April 10, 1882.
