Slaughter to Botts 1787 Indenture

This indenture made this 19th day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand, seven hundred and eighty-seven, between Robert Slaughter (son of John) and Lucy, his wife, of County of Culpeper, on one part and Aaron Botts of County of Stafford of the other part.  Witnesseth that Robert Slaughter and Lucy, his wife, for the sum of three hundred and three pounds, six shillings of present current money of Virginia, to them in hand paid by Aaron Botts, by these presents do bargain and sell unto Aaron Botts, his heirs, one certain tract of land lying in  the County of Culpeper and containing by estimation three hundred and thirty-seven acres, which land was given to Robert Slaughter by his father, John Slaughter, by a deed of gift bearing the 15th day of April, 1782, and recorded in the County Court of Culpeper and is bounded as follows:  Beginning at two Spanish oaks on the Church Road, corner to Benjamin Gaines, John Butler and Cadwallader Slaughter, and running thence with said Slaughter’s line South eighty-five degrees, East one hundred and forty poles to a hickory corner to said Slaughter, thence with his line South nineteen degrees, East one hundred and fifty-seven poles, to two chesnut oaks corner to said Slaughter, then South fourteen degrees, West one hundred and ninety-seven poles to a red oak marked C, thence North fifty degrees, West two hundred and sixty-three poles to a white oak near the Church Road, then North nineteen degrees, East eleven poles to said Road, thence along said road, the several courses thereof as follows:  North forty-eight degrees, East sixteen poles, North twenty-seven degrees, East forty-two poles, NOrth three degrees, East eighteen Poles, North twenty-five degrees, East thirty-two poles, North four degrees, East forty-four poles and North eighteen degrees, East twenty poles to the beginning.  Together with all improvements and priviledges thereto belonging and all estate right and title, rents, issues and profits to said premises belonging.  to have and to hold the land and premises with appurtenances unto Aaron Botts, his heirs.  And Robert Slaughter and Lucy his wife, by these presents, warrant and will forever defend the siad lands and premises unto Aaron Botts, his heirs, free and clear from all incumbrances and from teh claim of any person.  In witness whereof Robert Slaughter and Lucy his wife have hereto set their hands and seals the day and year first written.                    Robert Slaughter, Lucy Slaughter
