Wiman-Hupp Marriage Certificate

Scan_Pic0825

This is a copy of the original marriage certificate located at the Washington County Courthouse in Springfield, Kentucky.  I thought this particular one interesting since Mordecai Lincoln was a witness on the parent consent.  Mordecai was Abraham Lincoln’s uncle.

Know all men by these presents that we, Lewis Wiman and Thomas Mudd are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency, the Governor of Kentucky, in the sum of fifty pounds current money, to the payment of which well and truly to be made to the aforesaid governor and his successors.  We bind ourselves, our heirs and jointly and severally, firmly, by these presents, sealed with our seals and dated this 22nd day of January, 1793.  The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended between the above bound Lewis Wiman and Elizabeth Hupp, for which a license has issued.  Now if there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, then this obligation to be void – else to remain in full force and virtue.                    Lewis Wiman, Thomas Mudd

Witness, John Reed

This is to certify that I have granted liberty for Lewis Wiman and my daughter, Elizabeth Hupp, to join in matrimony.  Given under my hand January 15th, 1793.                  George Hupp
