Battle Grove Cemetery in Harrison County, Kentucky, is the final resting place of several members of the Knox family. Above is the gravestone for Isaac N. Knox and Lucinda Katherine Ingles who were married about 1850-1851. In the 1850 census of Pendleton County, Kentucky, Isaac Knox, 22, is living with the Ingles family, parents John and Adeline, children Susan, Lucinda, Ann, Elizabeth, James and William; and John Ingles’ mother, Mary, who was born in North Carolina. Isaac Knox is listed as a laborer.
Isaac and Katherine, or Katie as she must have been called, were the parents of five children: Nannie, Andrew, John William, James Harvey and Zachariah.
Son John William Knox was married three times. The first was to Ida M. Roberts on November 13, 1884. The couple had three daughters: Emma Mae, Anna Elizabeth and Nannie Newton Knox. Unfortunately Ida died at the young age of 30, and John married Mattie King the next year, May 17, 1894. Mattie died shortly afterwards, leaving no children. John’s third marriage was to Frances Ella Childers, with whom he had three children: George Bird, Ella Gertrude and Guilla Esther Knox.
