Pensioners in the 1840 Census – Garrard County, Kentucky

Included in the 1840 census is a list of “Pensioners for Revolutionary or military services, included in the foregoing”.  This is quite a treasure for genealogists – and one I did not know about until recently!  Remember that wives were also considered pensioners after the death of their husbands.

  1. Sarah Bryant is my ancestor. Her husband, John, had died two years previous. He had actually been living with another woman and had another family but in his will he made provisions for both women and all the kids. Very interesting.
