Memorial Day 2016

On this Memorial Day we celebrate those who have given their lives in protection of our country. Pictured above is my uncle, Joseph Robert Carrico, my mother’s oldest sibling. He was named for both his grandfathers, Joseph Benedict Napoleon Carrico and Robert E. Lee Montgomery, but was called Robert. He was ten years older than mom. He was killed during World War II – September 14, 1943, four days shy of his 22nd birthday. Robert was manning the guns that day and continued to fight until the last breath left his body. He is buried in Sicily, Italy.

Everyone has someone in their family that was a hero – giving everything, the ultimate sacrifice. We remember them gently today, and honor them in our hearts. They will live on forever in our memories.

Dear cousin Phyllis,

Such a fitting post on this Memorial Day. Marcia and I watched the PBS special program for Memorial Day last night. A lady sang the song, “Forever Young.” Indeed, those, like your uncle, killed in battle will remain “Forever Young.” Sorry for you and your family. I had two uncles, at least, in WW2, but both returned alive.

My mother also had a brother that was killed and buried over seas during World War II. So yes we remember them on this day for their sacrifice. They fought for us and died for us. May God be with all that lost a loved one on this day and all during the year.

Dottie, you have me confused. Is this Carrico in your family or just an example for Memorial Day? We have been looking at the Carricos anyway, as we have several lines with Carricos in them. We also have an adoption in the family that we have been trying to figure out. Just when we think we have solved it, something new pops up. p

Kindle Book – Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church Cemetery Photos – Old Cemetery – $8.29

Thank you for purchasing this book. There are two parts to the cemetery of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church – the old part is where the original settlers, the older people, were buried. This part is rather small. The newer part is much larger. Only the older cemetery is included in this book. There is a path up the hill from the new cemetery to the old cemetery, at the top of which is a monument in concrete which includes pieces of broken stones. What a wonderful way to display them – and so much better than throwing them away! This book includes photos of all the stones in the older part of the cemetery, and some from the new, a total of 70 names. Included are photos of the pathway, monument stones, church and historical marker.
