Mr. Rufus Harlow, aged about 40 years, died at his home in the Cornish­ville section Tuesday. He was well known and well liked in the com­munity where he resided. For some time he suffered with diabetes and the disease affected his leg and gangrene developed, causing his death. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Effie Hungate Harlow, and one sister. The funeral was held Thursday at Bruner’s Chapel, and burial was in the church cemetery.

Friday, August 2, 1940

Mrs. Effie Brown, aged 51, wife of Elmer Brown, of this city, died at a Lexington hospital at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 1940, after an illness of six months. She was a native of Mercer County, the daughter of J. T. and Dora Hungate and early in life embraced the Baptist faith and was a member at Bruner’s Chapel. She is survived by her husband, her parents, who live at Rose Hill, a sister, Miss Dora Hungate, of Harrodsburg, four brothers, Clarence, Bronston, Gilbert and Lonnie Hungate, all of Rose Hill.

The funeral was at 3 p.m. Friday July 26, at Bruner’s Chapel, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Geo. M. Trout. Burial in the chapel cemetery. The bearers were Charles Leonard, Clarence Davis, J. W., Grover and Lafon Darland and James Jackson.
