1792-1902 Washington County Will Book Index Database

The old Washington County Courthouse, now a museum.  The County Clerk’s office is located here, enter by the side door.

Here is another database for your genealogical research.  This one is a little different from the cemetery, marriage and baptismal lists.  Today I give you an alphabetical listing, an index of the first 23 will books of Washington County, for the years 1792 to 1902.  Let me be clear, there are no wills listed in this book.  This is a research tool to plan your trip to Washington County and know which books and what pages to look for to find your ancestors information, or to call and request copies.

WC Will Index CD

There are 9,474 names listed.  Included in the list are wills, inventories, list of sales, administrative settlements, dower allotments, division of estate, guardian settlements, etc.  Will book and page number are included.

For example:

  • Adams, Peter. Curator’s Settlement.  J 1853-1857.
  • Adams, Peter. Slaves Trustee.  J 1853-1857.  594
  • Adams, Peter.   J 1853-1857.  485
  • Adams, Peter. Slaves.  J 1853-1857.  531

As you can see it is possible there is more than one entry per person, and it is possible for the entries to span more than one Will Book.

One of my favorite places in the world!

As with all my databases this one can be sorted by name, instrument, book or page.  Any database I post will be listed under the heading Databases in the red box at the top of my blog.  These can also be saved to your computer for your use.  I hope this one gives you much information!

Down the winding staircase to the old records!
