Today I share a lovely photograph of a woman from the turn of the 20th century. This is not a carte-de-viste or a cabinet card. The front is a medium grey with a decorated oval. There is no notation of photographer, city or state. There is, however, in faint pencil, something written on the lower left-hand side of the photo, near the oval. I didn’t notice this until I brought the photo up in large form on my computer. Perhaps this woman’s name?

Her dress has a very decorated bodice with a high neckline, per the time period. It is unusual to see a woman wearing glasses in a photo, but then again, she looks very no nonsense to me.

I thought maybe it was the photographer’s name but maybe not. Looks like it ends with y. An hy at the end? First consonant is tricky. It goes below the line. P? Maybe a last name? She looks very stern. Yes, ma’am! Her hair curls at the top like mine, if that’s a natural curl.
Possibly Jackey?
The name on the photo would more than likely show up on blue light or possibly red.
