Carr Fork Memorial Cemetery – Knott County

During our trip to Kentucky in spring of 2023 we visited Carr Fork Memorial Cemetery in Knott County, located in the Brinkley area. Following KY-160 south to Carr Fork Cemetery Road, about 7 miles. Carr Fork is a beautiful cemetery that went straight up the hill. It was a gorgeous day and our photographs were very clear.

John Amburgey, Jr., Revolutionary Soldier born 1758, Culpeper County, Virginia, died May 3, 1831, and his wife, Elizabeth Hamons, born 1759, Surry county, North Carolina, died 1857. Dedicated by descendants, 1982.

**Frank Hylton, August 12, 1889-March 28, 1917. Hester Combs Hylton, August 25, 1898 – August 16, 1919.**

**Iota Johnson, March 27, 1919 – February 3, 1944. He gave his life to save our country.**

**Leodicy Adams Amburgey, December 25, 1854 – August 12, 1931. She was a kind and affectionate wife, a fond mother and a friend to all.** **Daughter of Stephen Adams and Elizabeth Francis, married to Hiram H. Amburgey.**

In the Amburgey row in the cemetery there are several with pictures attached to the gravestone – and all are still beautiful and easy to see.

**William J. Amburgey, April 4, 1829 – January 21, 1914.** **Son of Ambrose Amburgey and Rebecca Francis, married to Elizabeth Stamper.**

**Alice Amburgey, June 22, 1874 – Jul 18, 1895. Daughter of William J. Elizabeth Stamper Amburgey.**

**William W. Amburgey, April 4, 1866 – March 8, 1893. Son of William J. and Elizabeth Stamper Amburgey.**

**Ritchey volunteered to go to the top of the hill and photograph stones, while I started at the bottom. Great view of the cemetery.**

**Lurany Polly Francis, 1799 – 1874. Daughter of Edward Polly and Mary Agnes Mullins, married Thomas Francis as his second wife.**

**Elsibeth Kelly, born August 26, 1864, died November 5, 1927.**

Ambrose Amburgey, son of Elizabeth (Hammonds) Amburgey, born February 24, 1792, died February 6, 1875. Rebecca Amburgey, daughter of Thomas and Jane (Hammonds) Francis, and wife of Ambrose Amburgey, born December 22, 1801, died May 5, 1875.

**Victor Slone, June 16, 1915 – May 12, 1935. Weep not father and mother for me, for I am waiting in glory for thee.**

**Harry K. Slone, August 27, 1923 – April 11, 1946. he was honest and faithful to his country.**

This project is dear to me because my fifth great-grandfather, Captain John Linton, helped build this church. Many of my Linton, Moran and Edwards family members are buried here. Also, many of the early settlers of Washington County were laid to rest here. In a more modern happenstance, my husband’s father was minister of this church in the early 1960’s. Kindle Book – Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church Cemetery Photos – Old Cemetery – $8.29

Thank you for purchasing this book. There are two parts to the cemetery of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church – the old part is where the original settlers, the older people, were buried. This part is rather small. The newer part is much larger. Only the older cemetery is included in this book. There is a path up the hill from the new cemetery to the old cemetery, at the top of which is a monument in concrete which includes pieces of broken stones. What a wonderful way to display them – and so much better than throwing them away! This book includes photos of all the stones in the older part of the cemetery, and some from the new, a total of 70 names. Included are photos of the pathway, monument stones, church and historical marker.
