I am a family historian, a genealogist, one who puts families together, who finds those who have been lost for many years and acquaints modern day generations with their ancestors. There's nothing like having a full family tree! Email me at phyrit@roadrunner.com
Over the years I have shared many of the letters of Hugh Linton and Frances Linton Montgomery, my great-grandmother. In looking through my treasures I found the last letter written by Hugh, dated February 8, 1945. This was also the first and only letter handwritten – usually Hugh typed his […]
No offense to the men who write wills, but I always enjoy a will written by a woman. The list of items is so personal – a small trunk, china dishes, wash bowl and pitcher, dining table, odd set of farm teaspoons, a small clock. Laura F. Rowan […]
Samuel Smith is my fourth great-grandfather. He married Elizabeth Bending about 1784 in Maryland – most likely Prince George’s County. Samuel’s baptismal record is listed as April 8, 1755, in Prince George’s County, leaving us to believe his birth date was in late March or before the 8th […]
Robert Ryland was a Virginian, born there in 1805. His parents were Josiah H. Ryland, March 5, 1767 – June 9, 1850, and Catharine Peachey, May 4, 1776 – June 21, 1858, who were married June 18, 1802, in Essex County, Virginia. Robert was their second son; the […]
I share with you this morning a lovely carte de visite photograph of a little girl – perhaps 2 or 3 years of age. She is standing in a wicker chair, holding what appears to be a flower. Her cherubic face looks a bit unhappy – perhaps she has her […]
The following photographs were taken at Old Onton Cemetery, Webster County, Kentucky, in the town of Onton at the corner of Highways 147 and 370, in April of last year. Onton is a small town, but full of history as all small towns are. The older generation buried […]
This indenture involves my third great-grandfather, William Peter Montgomery, and his deceased brother, John Henry Montgomery. John Montgomery married Eleanor Elder January 9, 1815, in Washington County, Kentucky. John was the eldest child of Charles Montgomery and Mary Ann Elder, William was the youngest. In their approximate ten […]
Yesterday I attempted to file some of my original deeds, wills, etc., and came across this indenture between John and Ann Linton and William Moran. I thought this might be interesting for you. The John and Nancy Linton mentioned in this Washington County, Kentucky, indenture, are my 4th and […]
John Baptist Cambron and Henry Cambron are father and son – my sixth and fifth great-grandfathers. The Cambron’s came from Maryland, specifically from Montgomery County, as per the information below, but I have also seen Prince George’s County as the home of the Cambrons, and Charles County – I […]
