W. H. Smith, at her late residence on the Cornishville pike, Tuesday afternoon, the remains being brought here for interment in Spring Hill Cemetery.  The children who survive her are Mssrs. Bruce, Garrett and Roy Tewmey; Mrs. H. Vandivier, Mrs. Cora Johnson, Mrs. R. C. Hendren and Mrs. Jennie Duncan.

A Mother In Israel

On Christmas Day, 1910, when the earth was wrapped in its mantle of purity, while young and old mingled in sweet intercourse, rejoicing over the birthday of the “Christ-child,” the silent watchers around the bed saw the life of a devoted mother gradually go out.  As the shadows were deepening into night’s solemn gloom the sweet and gentle sppirit of Mrs. W. H. Tewmey was wafted Heavenward.  She was born March 5, 1835, and was the third daughter of Garrett and Rachel Terhune.  At the advanced age of seventy-five years, a ripe sheaf for the harvest, she willingly laid down life’s burdens at the call of the Master.  She was married to William Harvey Tewmey, December 21, 1852, her husband having preceded her to the heavenly home 10 years and eleven months to the day.  Nine children blessed their union; two of them have crossed death’s river to await on the other side.  She was devoted to her loved ones, ministering long as health permitted with a willing tenderness that characterizes a loving, loyal and faithful mother.  Her funeral was conducted at her late home near town, by Eld. W. H. Smith, pastor of the Christian Church.  In her girlhood her life was given to Christ, uniting with the Christian Church, and she was steadfast to her faith in the Gospel, rejoicing in the hope of the life eternal.  After appropriate services her remains were consigned to mother earth in Spring Hill Cemetery, while this prayer was breathed in silence:

Rest sweetly, in peace, dearest mother, sleep on through the ages to come, We know there can not be another, To fill your place in the home.  Softly into Heaven you have faded, Like the stars, when morning appears, There was naught for which to be upbraided, As we gazed through our blinding tears.  For a brief time death may divide it, But when we have passed through its gloom, We, too, shall be resting forever, With our dear mother at Home.
