Thomas Smith Rose Obituary

from The Harrodsburg Herald, Mercer County, Kentucky

Thursday, June 30, 1904

The people of this community were not surprised when the message came announcing the death of Mr. Thomas Smith Rose, which occurred Friday, June 24th, at five o’clock a.m. at the home of his son, Mr. J. L. Rose in Shelby City, in the 85th year of his age.  “A ripe sheaf for the harvest” he was calmly waiting God’s own appointed time to be called home and rejoiced when the summons came, for he was ready to go and join the loved ones of earth who had preceded him to that Heavenly home.  For sixty years he was a devout member of the Christian Church, always in every good work, a hearty supporter, sharable, kind and true to the right.  Henceforth he will enjoy the reward that is promised to the faithful.  He was an invalid for several years and made an impression upon the heart of those around him by his genial companionship and childlike faith in Jesus, most beautiful to remember.  Since the loss of his aged and devoted wife, who was Miss Mary McClure, his permanent home had been with his eldest daughter, Mrs. Holman Vanarsdall, until two weeks prior to his death.  His funeral service was conducted at Berea Sunday at 11 o’clock, by Rev. S. H. Jones, a life long and devoted friend of the departed and his family.  He admonished his seven surviving children to lead good lives and follow the example given them by a godly father, whose memory would linger long in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.  Two aged sisters, Mrs. Mary Cozett and Adeline Cozett of Parksville and one brother, Mr. G. G. Rose, of this place.
