Robert McGrew, December 7, 1821 – December 14, 1905. Minerva McGrew, his wife, September 29, 1818 – October 14, 1905. Plum Creek Baptist Cemetery, Spencer County, Kentucky.

Spencer County

Robert McGrew was born in Spencer County, Kentucky, December 7, 1821. He is the tenth of a family of twelve children born to George and Elizabeth (Cravison) McGrew. George was a stone mason by trade, but was also engaged in agricultural pursuits. Our subject was married in February, 1842, to Miss Minerva C. Collins, daughter of George Collins. Two children have blessed their union: Susan E., who married R. S. Gilbert, and have four living children: Kate, Everett, Ella and Jesse; and Joseph W., who married Irene Alloway and have four living children: Iva, William, Bettie and Robert. Our subject received a common-school education, and has always been engaged in the pursuits of the farm, and now owns 318 acres near Waterford. He and his wife are strict members of the Plum Creek Baptist Church, in which he has been deacon for twenty years. He is also a Master Mason.

How I love to cook for my family and friends. Not a professional by any means, many of my recipes have been handed down from my mother, my grandmothers, and my aunt. I love to make these dishes since it brings back wonderful memories of those days in the kitchen with those who are now gone. In that way I suppose it is partially a genealogy cookbook! Included on this CD are 856 names, 740 photos. This has been a five year project, taking photos beginning in the fall of 2008 and through 2012. I’ve just recently put the list together. This project is dear to me because my fifth great-grandfather, Captain John Linton, helped build this church. Many of my Linton, Moran and Edwards family members are buried here. Also, many of the early settlers of Washington County were laid to rest here. In a more modern happenstance, my husband’s father was minister of this church in the early 1960’s. Who knew we would share this common piece of history? Included is an alphabetical listing of those buried at Pleasant Grove, including birth and death dates, and sometimes additional information. Just click on the number in the photo column and the photo will pop up.

Kindle Book – Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church Cemetery Photos – Old Cemetery – $8.29

Thank you for purchasing this book. There are two parts to the cemetery of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church – the old part is where the original settlers, the older people, were buried. This part is rather small. The newer part is much larger. Only the older cemetery is included in this book. There is a path up the hill from the new cemetery to the old cemetery, at the top of which is a monument in concrete which includes pieces of broken stones. What a wonderful way to display them – and so much better than throwing them away! This book includes photos of all the stones in the older part of the cemetery, and some from the new, a total of 70 names. Included are photos of the pathway, monument stones, church and historical marker.
