Know all men by these presents that we, Berry Janes and Maurice Berry, are held and firmly bound unto James Garrard, Esq., Governor of Kentucky, and his successors in the penal sum of fifty pounds current money to the payment of which well and truly to be made. We bind ourselves, our heirs and executors, and administrators, jointly and severally by these presents, sealed with our seals and dated this 4th day of November 1801.
The condition of the above obligation is such that if there should be no legal cause to obstruct a marriage shortly intended to be solemnized between the above bound Berry Janes, son to David Janes, and Gracy Berry, step-daughter to Day Williams, then this obligation to be void, else remain in full force.
Berry Janes, Maurice Berry
We do hereby certify that I am willing for a marriage to take place between Berry Janes and my daughter Gracy Berry, witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this 4 day of November 1801.
